How to find the right obedience class for your pet

Updated: Jun 19, 2021

Finding the right obedience training for your new pooch is essential. Remember that every dog is different, full of their own traits and characteristics making them all unique, like people. Maybe this is your family's first pet and you don't really know where to start. Maybe this is your second or third pet but have never done the training yourself and want to learn.

To properly chose a trainer you have to first identify your goals. Is this a pet you want specific training for to tailor your needs? Do you have other pets at home? Are you expecting a baby or have a family? These are all important questions to ask yourselves before getting a new pet. If you already have a pet and are just looking for the right trainer, keep in mind that older dogs (adolescent/adult) can also be trained yet it may take longer.

Something that I have come to learn very early on while training dogs is that, the training isn't necessarily for the dogs but for the people. Do you want your dog running out to the middle of the street? What if they've got their mouth on something hazardous? It is for their safety and your ease of mind. The training not only allows your dog to learn new tricks but to completely trust and listen to you.

What are training methods you'd use on your dog?
